Install Kekkai

One command installs the CLI. Then link it to your account and set up a project.

macOS and Linux

$curl -fsSL https://preview-1.trykekkai.com/install.sh | sh -s -- --channel beta

To update, run the install command again.

Windows

Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit: invite-only for now, until Kekkai's Windows builds are code-signed.

What you need

Operating system
  • macOS 11 or newer, on Apple Silicon or Intel
  • Linux, 64-bit (x86_64 or arm64), with glibc 2.28 or newer: Ubuntu 20.04, Debian 10, RHEL/Rocky 8, Fedora, Amazon Linux 2023 or newer
  • Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, on Intel or AMD: invite-only for now, until Kekkai's Windows builds are code-signed

Not supported yet: Alpine and other musl-based Linux, 32-bit systems, and Windows PCs with Smart App Control turned on.

Coding agent

Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode or Cursor

Kekkai's Codex and Cursor support was tested in their terminal versions.

Coming soon: Gemini CLI. Not yet supported: Antigravity.

Then, set up this computer and your project

$kekkai login
$kekkai pack update
$kekkai init

kekkai login opens a page to approve the computer and installs your license. kekkai pack update gets the current advisory pack; run it once on each computer, after kekkai login. It can be quiet for up to five minutes before it prints one line. kekkai init sets up your coding agents in the project. Releases ship with signed checksums.

Uninstall

First, in each project where you ran kekkai init:

$kekkai alerts off
$kekkai hook uninstall pre-push
$kekkai init --remove-agent all

These turn off the project's alerts, remove Kekkai's parts of the Git pre-push hook, and remove Kekkai's skill files and its blocks in AGENTS.md and CLAUDE.md. If the project isn't a Git repository, skip the hook command: it needs Git, and the project has no hook. If you added Kekkai's lines to husky, lefthook or pre-commit, remove them there too.

Then delete kekkai.toml and the .kekkai folder, and remove Kekkai's lines from .gitignore (delete the file if nothing else is left in it). If .claude or .opencode now holds only an empty skills folder, delete it too.

Then, once on each computer:

$kekkai logout

kekkai logout removes this computer from your account. If that fails, it tells you where to remove the computer on the website. Then remove the program:

macOS and Linux

$kekkai self uninstall

These remove the program and the PATH changes the installer made. They keep these folders:

macOS and Linux
~/.local/share/kekkai

To delete them too, delete them yourself, or on macOS and Linux run kekkai self uninstall --purge-data instead. On macOS and Linux, ~/.local/bin and ~/.local/share stay, because other programs use them too. If the installer created your shell's startup file, such as ~/.zshrc, it stays as well; delete it if it's empty.

If Kekkai no longer starts

On macOS and Linux, the install script can remove the program and its PATH lines instead. It also keeps the folders above.

$curl -fsSL https://preview-1.trykekkai.com/install.sh | sh -s -- --uninstall

If the script says the SHA-256 differs from the receipt, delete the program yourself (~/.local/bin/kekkai) and run the script again.

Then do the project steps by hand. Delete the files and folders named above, plus .claude/skills/kekkai and .opencode/skills/kekkai. In AGENTS.md, CLAUDE.md and .claude/CLAUDE.md, delete the part from <!-- kekkai:start --> through <!-- kekkai:end -->. In a Git repository, also edit the pre-push hook: delete each part from a line starting with # >>> kekkai through the next line starting with # <<< kekkai; git rev-parse --git-path hooks/pre-push shows where it is. Delete AGENTS.md if nothing else is left in it, and the hook if only its first line is left. Last, turn off each project's alerts on your Projects page and remove this computer on your Computers page.
